Other factoids about the big bang which I found myself looking up last night in order to answer M7 (“how big was the big bang, daddy?”):
after the period of inflation, the now-visible portion of the universe had a diameter of about 10 cm. Doesn’t sound much, but it got there in only 15 x 10-33 seconds (src).
after one second, the now-visible portion of the universe was about a thousand times the size of the solar system (src). As I said to M7: “That’s a pretty big bang.”
